The Setting - PROJECT INFINITY

Project Infinity is a dimension hopping game of exploration and adventure set on alternate Earths. In a reality almost identical to our own, a group of scientists has been working on a system to weaken the boundaries between universes, now they have succeeded. Project Infinity is a privately funded operation, whose main base is located on Île du Port, one of the Kerguelen Islands in the southern Indian Ocean, also know as the Desolation Islands. The French Government has a presence at the base.
The only way onto or off of the island is by 6 day boat trip.

While the Infinity Project is not secret, no one seems to care much about it. It gets little or no publicity and is generally unknown to the population at large.

The organization financing the project is called The Infinity Foundation, and little is known about it.

The base itself is powered by an advanced fusion reactor. The base is stark, but still comfortable. There is a surprisingly large storage area with enough supplies to last for years, and some very odd equipment including trucks, aircraft and weapons.

There are 2 Bell 206A-1 Jetranger Helicopters. They are 39 feet 3 inches. Just fitting on the interphase pad, the helicopter has to be placed precisely in the middle for the interphase to function - otherwise it will hang over the edge..


INTERPHASE PLATFORM

Centrally located, is the Interphase platform, a 40 foot concrete helicopter landing pad surrounded by large machines and antenna.



PROJECT INFINITY

During the cold war, a scientist in Utah, named Dr Norman Questor was doing theoretical research on higher dimensions. His research was considered promising but impractical. After his mysterious disappearance in 1970, his work was examined and determined to be incomprehensible. It was labeled top secret and filed away, until it was released in the 1990s through a freedom of information act request by a young grad student named Carver Manning. Carver dedicated his career to the material, and made several important breakthroughs. Now he is in charge of Project infinity, and has made the last breakthrough. It is time to test the project.

Currently the system can only connect to one other alternate Earth. It would take considerable reprogramming, and mechanical changes to set new inter-dimensional coordinates.

THE PLAYER CHARACTERS

The PCs have been hired as explorers, although they are not told exactly what they will be exploring. Most of them answered Craigslist ads.


The explorers are  prepped for their first journey. They are going to go to an alternate Earth, have a look around  and report back. Each has been issued a uniform, backpack with equipment and a side arm.

A major change in the rules set. We've gotten rid of levels. Instead At the end of each session, each character is awarded character points to be spent on skills at 1 to 1 and on attributes at 3 to 1. Character points can be spent on Hit points at 1 point per hit die (1d6+2) gained. This also means the initial skill points given during character generation are different. 2d4+2 We've also added a parry roll to melee combat: During a combat round , if the combatants are in close combat with melee weapons, the defender may roll to parry when the attacker scores a successful hit.the defender may roll to parry. VISITING THE CITY STATE

The Interphase platform is located in a large vault beneath a tavern called "The Cup and Dragon," in the Thieve's Quarter of the City State of the Invincible Overlord. It is a fantasy realm with many dungeons nearby that are guarded by dragons. You get the idea. The local criminal element can see a real use for the PCs and their portal. The PCs can pass through the area without fear of being robbed. The rest of the city state is a place where eccentric adventurers are common. As long as the PCs don't cause any serious trouble, they can move through the city, and even venture out into the open countryside without being accosted. Of course, the Overlord's spies know of the PCs, but they are keeping tabs without interfering. The PCs may come in handy someday.
